Description Citroen C3

Citroën company introduced the third generation of the C3 front-wheel drive hatchback in June 2016, and its public presentation took place in October at the Paris Motor Show. Citroën C3 received a fundamentally new exterior and interior design, and also borrowed from the model C4 Cactus protective "pillows" AirBump. The French showed a restyled version of the model in February 2020, and in July the Ukrainian representative office announced prices and configurations.

From the end of 2016 until the appearance of the restyled version, about 750 thousand copies of the third generation Citroën C3 were sold in the world. In Ukraine, over three years, Citroën C3 sold more than 1.1 thousand cars, while in 2018-2019. the model occupied 23-24% in its class - the hatchback became one of the segment leaders in our country.

Citroën C3 of the third iteration is built on a modernized PSA concern PF1 chassis. Compared to its predecessor, the C3 is slightly longer and lower, and the wheelbase has grown by 74mm to 2539mm. The volume of the trunk has not changed and is 300 liters with the backrests of the second row raised. For comparison, at Ford Fiesta the specified parameter is 276 l, and for Volkswagen Polo - 280 l. In this case, the back row in C3 is folded in the proportion of 1/3 - 2/3. With the backrests folded down, the volume of the cargo compartment increases to 922 liters.

The updated version of the model differs, first of all, in the design of the front end in the style of the Citroën CXperience concept car: enlarged main headlights, a new shape of LED lights, a changed bumper and a chrome grille trim. As a result, the reformed Citroën C3 is stylistically on a par with the current brand novelties of its time: Citroën C5 Aircross, Citroën C4 Cactus, Citroën Berlingo. However, the changes brought not only a new style, but also improved functionality - for example, the restyled Citroën C3 received EcoLED LED headlights by default for all trim levels in Ukraine.

When looking at the sidewalls, the facelifted Citroën C3 can be identified by the redesigned and horizontally elongated "AIRBUMP" pads: these pads protect the bodywork from minor damage. In addition, the AIRBUMP pads are also an element of customization: they are designed to match one of four color packages, among which the new Emerald Blue has been added. The body color options have also been expanded, with seven body colors now available for the buyer to choose from, including two new ones - Elixir Red and Spring Blue. In addition, the choice of options for decorative stickers, roof color, rims has been increased. As a result, the possibility of personalizing the hatchback has increased significantly. So, if earlier for the Citroën C3 there were 36 different appearance options available (a combination of body color, roof color, color packages, rims, stickers), now the total number of trim options has been increased to 97 (depending on the sales market and the availability of various options) .

The novelty received an innovation in the arrangement of the cabin - AdvancedComfort seats, which are already known from the flagship models of the brand. The original design of the seats provides for an additional layer of filler foam 2-15 mm thick in different areas of the seat. This foam fill molds to the shape of the body for a more comfortable fit. In addition, new interior design options have been added to the hatchback - Emerald and TechWood: decorative inserts on the front console, contrast stitching on the seats, leather steering wheel trim. Also worth noting is the 7-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

For the Ukrainian market, the updated Citroën C3 is offered with two powertrain options to choose from. Initial - naturally aspirated 1.2 PureTech 82 engine paired with a 5-speed. Manual transmission and consumption of 4.7 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle. The second option is a 1.2 PureTech 110 Stop & Start turbo engine paired with a 6-speed. Automatic transmission and fuel consumption of 5.2 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle. In addition, buyers can choose a trim level - FEEL or SHINE - as well as order additional options and different exterior / interior trim packages. 

The starting equipment of FEEL includes: ABS and ESP systems, six airbags, air conditioning, a Bluetooth audio system, EcoLED headlights, tinted windows, as well as a Safety package (warning about leaving your lane, reading traffic signs, driver fatigue control system). The SHINE version additionally offers: climate control, rear parking sensors, 7-inch touchscreen display in the cabin, fog lights, Visibility package (light and rain sensors), AIRBUMP skid plates, 16-inch alloy wheels, contrasting color roofs (black/white/red/turquoise).

In crash tests Euro NCAP hatchback Citroën C3 2017 model year received four stars out of five possible. The C3 scored 88% for driver and adult passenger protection, 83% for child passenger protection, 59% for pedestrian protection, and 58% for safety devices. The highest rating was unattainable due to the lack of an emergency auto-braking system in the basic configuration and the loss of points on the pedestrian safety test upon collision.

The third generation Citroën C3 hatchback is produced at the PSA Group plant in Trnava (Slovakia).
